The greatest rivalry in the NFL is meeting for the 195th time and this one promises to be a doozy. Despite the Packers boasting a strong 2-1 record this season and the lowly Bears barely holding on at 1-2, both teams are (dare I say?) evenly matched for the first time since the late noughties. Aaron Rodgers’ usual magic is the only thing keeping the Packers’ heads above water while the Bears have resurrected their defense and the freak of nature Tarik Cohen has reignited the offense that has been bland for years now.
Remember way back in July when the Chicago Cubs held a depressing 43-45 record and were five and a half games out of first in the National League Central division? Ya, those same Cubs just became division champs with a 5-1 win against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Lead by rookie number 80, Tyler Wong, The Las Vegas Golden Knights destroyed the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday September 17, by a score of 9-4. Wong, being the number 1 star for the game lead the team with three goals and one assist. In just under five minutes, he scored his first career goal, and the team’s first goal ever, receiving a chip-pass from Cody Glass to put the Golden Knights up 1-0 early in the first period.
The new season of Bears football has rung in and with it unsurprisingly comes another Kevin White season-ending injury, but this time in the form of a fractured scapula. At this point, a season-ending injury from the former seventh overall is nearly a tradition for Bears football. Injuries have plagued the city’s sports for years now and White has been hit with the curse harder than most.
After weathering a terrible playoffs, NBA fans are being treated to just about the greatest offseason of all time. There has been five massive blockbusters (Ricky Rubio, Kyrie Irving/Isaiah Thomas, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul) already, a draft that looks to be one of the best ever before the season starts and even a free agency this eventful is almost a disappointment in comparison to the rest of the headlines this offseason.
Isn’t this supposed to be the boring part?
For the first time in years, the Chicago Bears are a team with actual flare. True, evident flare. The franchise has always embodied a gritty attitude highlighted with a hard nosed run game and stout defensive play. The 1985 and 2006 squads were the peaks of the Bears’ values and it showed on both reputation and success levels. However, in years’ past, there was a shocking absence of this ideology. As fans, we haven’t enjoyed legitimate “Bears” football since 2012 with the conclusion of the Lovie Smith era.
Hold on everybody, we have nearly entered that absolute nothing stage of the year for sports. With the NBA and NHL playoffs reaching conference finals state and only giving us a single game or two a day for the next 3 weeks and then disappearing completely and the forsaken MLB season have already worn out it's welcome, fans and journalists alike are being given little to do in our beloved world of professional athletics.
So what do us as fans get to do besides snore through another uncompetitive NBA conference finals or gawk at small hockey markets duke it out on the massive conference finals stage?
How bout we talk draft busts?
When anyone says the combination of words “quarterback controversy”, any NFL fans’ mind immediately jumps to a situation with Kardashian levels of drama that creates massive, incurable rifts in the fanbase and sets the rest of the sports world on fire with every writer and analyst giving their two cents through a single question-who should this football team start at the quarterback position?
Fellow sports fans, I have come to a burning realization. After years of enjoying LeBron James and Stephen Curry break the game of basketball through Sprite and Muscle Milk as super teams form and wreak havoc on their respective conference, it has finally dawned on me.
The Cubs have been heating up recently as they have now won their last two games after failing to win their series versus the reds a few days ago.
Ben Zobrist opened up the scoring in the game with a solo shot to deep right center, his ninth on the year. That sparked a big sixth inning for the Cubs as they scored two more runs that inning Including a bases loaded single by new addition, Alex Avila.
The Avila deal has proved crucial for the success of this team as he has been a huge replacement with Contreras being out potentially the rest of the regular season with a hamstring injury.
Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, TJ Mixson learned that nothing in football is given, it's earned. But for the Carolina star, college football is just part of the equation.
Mixson’s rise to FCS stardom began at West Charlotte High School, where he dazzled both on and off the field. In the classroom, Mixson excelled with a 4.2 grade point average and was honored with the invitation to give a ceremonial speech at his graduation. On the gridiron, Mixson transcended all expectations but his own, rushing for 1800 yards and scoring 26 touchdowns as quarterback his senior season. Though Mixson smashed high school and conference records, he failed to gather the attention of large collegiate programs.
In the first round of the playoffs we have what should be some really close games. There is only one matchup in the first round where in the past matchup, it was a more than 1 possession game. That was the Dolphins vs. Steelers game where the final score was Dolphins 30 Steelers 15. That game took place week 6 and a lot has changed for both teams with players such as Jay Ajayi have had a lot more time to work up the momentum he now has. Our first round game predictions are below:
Whether you're going to see your favorite football team play, or you're just visiting to see a game…the stadium matters. Here are my top 5 best NFL stadiums.
In recent years, The Chicago Blackhawks have been a force to be reckoned with. Most years they are projected to win The Stanley Cup or at least go far in the playoffs. This year was different though, most people thought their reign was over. A lot of their top players like Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Teuvo Teravainen left the team, and other players such as Marian Hossa are just getting old. But the Blackhawks came out and surprised most people so far this season. They hold the top spot in the Central Division. Let's take a minute to look at some of the reasons why they are shocking us so far this season.
The last week of the regular season gave us some drama, a change in the New Year’s Six games and a tough situation for the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
The Michigan at Ohio State game lived up to the hype and then some. Both teams did not play well, which kept the game close. Regulation ended with an Ohio State field goal to tie the game at 17, even after the Ohio State kicker missed two earlier in the game. In the first OT, Ohio State scored an easy touchdown off a run by quarterback J.T. Barrett. Then Michigan scored on a 4th down sending the game into double overtime. On the first drive Michigan kicked a field goal. Then Ohio State converted a 4 down and inches behind J.T. Barrett’s run. The very next play, Ohio State’s Curtis Samuel scored from 15 yards out for the win.
We saw an action packed 2016 offseason another great 2017 offseason is close to starting as we will see some big power bats and also some big power arms. Here, we will predict where top free agents will land.
No. 12 Indiana fought through a foul plagued night but still came out with the 103-99 overtime victory against No. 2 Kansas. James Blackmon Jr. lead all Hoosier players with 26 points and freshman guard Curtis Jones added a huge 15 points from the bench.
Indiana struggled in the early stages of the game with turnovers, but stayed competitive because of their strong 3 point shooting. Thomas Bryant, the 6’10’’ sophomore center even hit two 3 point shots early.
First of all, for all of you that have seen PED in the headlines of news stories and don’t know what they are, they are performance-enhancing drugs. Alshon Jeffery, the Chicago Bears wide receiver has been accused and suspended for taking PEDs. Jeffery is suspended for four games. Now the bears are bad, but Alshon Jeffery was the last sliver of hope with the team because he is a very skilled wide receiver. Jeffery will not only be suspended but suspended without pay. Now the Bears have said that as soon as he is
Week eleven was in line to be the worst week of what’s been a crazy college football season. The schedule featured only two games between ranked teams, and most playoff contenders were preparing for “résumé building” matchups. If you needed to miss any week of college football this year, this would have been the one. It should’ve been boring. It should’ve been a week to forget. It should’ve went as planned. Well, it wasn’t boring or forgettable, and it certainly didn’t go as planned, and it’s leaving college football fans everywhere saying “we should’ve known better.”
It’s hard to believe, but the new season of college basketball is beginning on Friday. Friday also makes the wait until Selection Sunday only 121 days. It felt like just a couple of weeks ago when Kris Jenkins nailed the game winning shot in the national championship and Villanova cut down the nets and claimed their spot on the NCAA basketball throne. College basketball is one of the most exciting sports to follow, and this season won’t be any different.
Heisman trophy candidate Lamar Jackson wasn’t playing like himself all day, and Virginia’s defense had been playing a good enough for the potential upset. But, Virginia’s final touchdown and risky try for a two point conversion left Jackson a good chunk of time to get the win.
Anthony Davis started out the season with a huge performance against the Denver Nuggets, putting up 50 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. He shot 50% from the field; but this amazing stat line wasn’t enough to get the victory. They lost at home 107-102.
The MLB is full of competition. You got young players competing to get into the league, and then you got players competing for everyday roster spots. And, of course you got teams competing to win everyday and make a playoff push. But I want to look at a very interesting competition... Every year since 1956, the Cy Young Award is given to two men, the most outstanding pitchers in the NL and AL. Like most years, this year’s race is very tight. Here are my predictions:
With the Cubs being potential World Series champs for the first time in quite a while, national media has been constantly covering every single second of Cubs action. This coverage has come at a cost for the cross-town rival. You may have heard of the Chicago White Sox(?). Many media outlets have somehow forgotten that there have been two World Series played in Chicago that didn’t involve the Cubs(1959: Dodgers vs. White Sox; 2005: Astros vs. White Sox). Some of these outlets include ESPN and CBS Morning News.
The Chicago Cubs have had a very exciting season for the fans in Chicago and they made the season even more exciting with their 3-1 series win over the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs then beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in a best out of 7 series. Now the cubs have a best of 7 series with the Cleveland Indians to see who will win the World Series.
