The Chicago Cubs have had a very exciting season for the fans in Chicago and they made the season even more exciting with their 3-1 series win over the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs then beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in a best out of 7 series. Now the cubs have a best of 7 series with the Cleveland Indians to see who will win the World Series.
The matchup for the Cubs and Cleveland is going to be the great matchup. The cubs haven’t won the World Series since 1908 and the Indians haven’t won the World Series was 1948. Pitching is going to be the main key for the cubs if they want to beat the Indians in the World Series. Game 1 of the series was a very exciting game for the Indians but the Cubs because suffered a 6-0 loss.
Here are some Highlights from Game 1:
Ben Zobrist: Ben Zobrist played an unbelievable game on the defensive side and especially the offensive side. He went 3-4 with a double and two singles. Ben Zobrist’s double was in the second when he hit it with zero outs. It was unlucky that he didn’t get to score because Kluber struck out the next three hitters. Zobrist then got a single in the seventh and eighth inning. The Cubs offense brought was not that great tonight and could have been much better
Roberto Perez: Roberto Perez’s had an awesome night at the plate for the Cleveland Indians. Perez had two homers that were crushed out of the park. One of the homers was a solo homer that came off Lester to make the Indians up 3-0 and the second homer was a three run homer off of Rondon to clinch the game for the Indians and made the score 6-0. The offense for the Indians was on fire today and also their pitching was terrific so that is why they claimed the win for Game 1 of the World Series.
Corey Kluber was phenomenal, getting eight of his first nine outs via strikeouts. He pitched 6 innings, allowing 4 hits and 0 runs, with 9 strikeouts total. The Indians then turned to super-reliever Andrew Miller, who showed signs of struggle, allowing the bases loaded with no outs, but then got out of it by striking out the side. Cody Allen got the save, striking out the side while allowing only 1 hit.
Lester got the loss in the game but he still pitched a good game. He pitched six innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. The Indians got to him on the basepaths however, as they took advantage of his unwillingness to pick off to first base. The Cubs need to rebound tonight, and hit early in the games, forcing the Indians to go to their pen.
