The Cubs are much, much better than their record shows. 31-26 on paper, the Cubbies look like a mediocre team, however their season has been far greater than that.
After beating a very solid Detroit Tigers team 12-3, it looks like the Cubs are just hitting their stride. They have won four of their last six, averaging nearly five runs per game in that span. But it’s not just the bats that have gotten them going. The Northsiders defense has also taken significant strides in the last few weeks. Over the past six game stretch, the Cubs have allowed barely over three runs per game.
Another bright spot for the Cubs is pitcher, Jason Hammel. Hammel has a 5-2 record, while throwing a 2.76 ERA on the season.
While the season is far from over, hitting an early stride hopefully means good things in the future. If all goes well, the Cubbies won’t burn out before the postseason.
