In recent years, The Chicago Blackhawks have been a force to be reckoned with. Most years they are projected to win The Stanley Cup or at least go far in the playoffs. This year was different though, most people thought their reign was over. A lot of their top players like Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Teuvo Teravainen left the team, and other players such as Marian Hossa are just getting old. But the Blackhawks came out and surprised most people so far this season. They hold the top spot in the Central Division. Let's take a minute to look at some of the reasons why they are shocking us so far this season.
A huge reason why the Hawks are doing so well is Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin. They are both guys that you would think of as role players, but this season they are pulling more than their weight. Anisimov has the third most points on the team, with 20, and the second most goals with 9. Panarin has the second most points with 21, and the third most assists with 13. It is really refreshing for the Blackhawks to see guys other than Kane and Toews earning points.
Another big reason is Marian Hossa. This guy is 37 years old, yet still leading the team in goals with 11. At the beginning of the season nobody knew what to expect from this guy, but he is definitely contributing in a big way.
Last but not least, as long as the Hawks have Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews they can’t be bad. Kane is playing amazingly as he leads the team in points with 23 in 23 games. His phenomenal skill and hard work really seems to fire up the team. Of course Toews isn’t having his best year, but he is still doing well, and is the team captain, and thus deserves respect.
As the season progresses, Blackhawks fans will watch and hope for a 7th stanley cup to come to Chicago.
