Rose is also coming off a season where he played a complete postseason and had an entire offseason to work on his game. Rose’s supporting cast is as good as ever, which will only help him put up big assist numbers alongside his already proven scoring capabilities. He is also aware of how everyone is overlooking him. NBA.com’s Sam Smith even compared Rose’s mindset going into this season to Michael Jordan’s mindset after coming back to the NBA after playing baseball. Here’s an except from Smith that describes his thoughts on Rose:
“I go by a few things, mainly Rose being able to train without coming off surgery for the first time since 2011 and that inner drive hearing how he’s being so widely dismissed. I’m not yet likening it to Michael Jordan in 1995, but Jordan’s poor shooting when he returned from baseball and being downgraded that summer after Nick Anderson’s infamous No. 45 is not No. 23 comment helped drive Jordan to lead the Bulls to the greatest season in sports history. I’m not suggesting Rose will do that, but I wouldn’t want to be many of those now top rated point guards against Rose this season.”
It’ll be interesting to see just how far Rose leads the Bulls this season. I predict the Bulls make a deep playoff run this season behind the efforts of 3 All-Stars: Rose, Butler, and Gasol. Everything points to Rose being a force this season, and that’s exactly what everyone in Chicago is hoping for.
