The Chicago Bulls' inconsistency grows more evident, game after game. But why?
Could Derrick Rose’s tenure as a Chicago Bull be coming to an end? Could Chicago’s own, a #1 draft pick, and former MVP, really be on his way out of the Windy City? It appears as if all the pieces are there for Rose and the Bulls to go their separate ways. As an avid Bulls fan myself, I can’t stand to see what has become of Derrick Rose over the past 4 years.
Joakim Noah is a 2-time NBA all star and a former defensive player of the year. He also finished 4th in MVP voting in 2014. Now, according to K.C Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, he will most likely start this upcoming season coming off the bench.
After the final buzzer went off and the Chicago Bulls had lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the sixth game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Bulls fans were all wondering the same thing... what changes are in store for the Bulls this upcoming season?
In honor of the Bulls starting their regular season tonight, let’s think back to the prime of Derrick Rose. Before the orbital fracture, right meniscus tear, sprained ankles, ACL tear, to the 2010-2011 season. The MVP season, in which he averaged 25 PPG, and led the Bulls into an epic playoff run, eventually falling the the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. Derrick Rose, with the help of other veterans and an irreplaceable bench squad, led the Bulls to the best season since the Jordan-era. Every game, home or away, we witnessed the explosiveness of Rose, with every time he drove to the basket, or made clutch buzzer beaters, or eye shaking no look passes. Without a doubt, Rose had an incredible season and very much so earned the MVP award, at the impressive age of 22 years old.
Once again, the Bulls will be without Derrick Rose, as they get ready for the start of another NBA season.
During the Bulls practice on Tuesday, September 29th, Rose was elbowed in the face and suffered a left orbital fracture in his face. He is scheduled to have surgery to repair the fracture on Wednesday at Rush University Medical Hospital in Chicago. After which, a timetable will be set for his return.
With the NBA season merely 30 days away, Chicago Bulls fans have many reasons to be optimistic. Jimmy Butler is a rising star, Pau Gasol is looking as young as ever, and Derrick Rose is coming off a season where he was finally healthy. But there is one story that has my attention. Derrick Rose is going to be an All-Star this season. Yes, you heard that correctly. Rose is being vastly underrated going into this season, and after watching him play, I’m dumbfounded as to why this is. Rose is the second most athletic point guard in the league. (I think everyone can agree that Russell Westbrook is the most athletic point guard right now, and quite possibly, ever.) Also, Rose is coming off a playoff run where he averaged 20.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 6.5 apg, and 1.2 spg. Remember also that these numbers were from the playoffs, where Rose faced some of the best competition in the league.
As of now, the Bulls’ roster is essentially the same as it was a season ago, with the additions of PF Bobby Portis and Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. The hope being that Rose and Noah will be back to their all star caliber play and Jimmy Butler would build on a promising start to his career. However, that is a lot to hope for. Many Bulls fans were disappointed to see the hometown team fail to make a splash, or even a ripple, in free agency this year and draft a power forward to our already crowded front court. So, at this point, trades are the only way Chicago can round out its roster to make a truly competitive run at a championship.
The 2014-15 Chicago Bulls should consider themselves lucky to have reached the second round of the NBA playoffs. Read more here:
It seems as though the entire city of Chicago has been holding its breath since the news of Patrick Kane’s alleged rape case became public. To many Chicagoans, nothing could have been worse than the accusations against Kane. Well, here we are Chicago. Just when we thought it couldn’t be worse, Derrick Rose is accused of drugging and gang raping his ex-girlfriend. The story goes like this:
