To this day, the Hawks spent $64 million on only 14 players. That being said, they have just shy of $7 million to spend on resigning players this offseason. Here’s where the issues begin. The Blackhawks need to sign about 10 players to put together a complete roster. To put that in perspective, the cup champions have about 700,000 bucks to spend per player. This all includes resigning key role player Brandon Saad, who will be a restricted free agent this upcoming season. It is likely that the Hawks will get rid of richards, and they have also expressed interest in trading Patrick Sharp for a draft pick and first or second line forward. The Blackhawks will have some big holes to fill next year if both Sharp and Richards end up out, and the salary cap doesn’t help our situation. Chicago, this might be a rough summer… hold tight and have some faith in the front office.
