At the 1st intermission, we were losing 1-0. 2nd period there were no goals scored, but this is the 20:00 that the Hawks started to turn the tables catching up in the statistics. Faceoffs in this game were huge, like rebounds in basketball, faceoffs give the teams possession leading to eventual scoring chances, the Hawks ended up winning the faceoff category. Winning 12-5 in the 2nd, and tying 8-8 3rd period. In the 1st the Hawks lost 6-10. At the end of regulation we won 26-23 in the faceoff battle and correlatedly won the game.
Another department that we were being pushed around in, is shots. We were held to 13 in the first 40:00, and ended up with 19, averaging a little more than 6 shots a period which is not ideal at all. Luckily we had high quality chances by screening Ben Bishop and going top shelf on him like I recommended in a previous article.
Down 1-0 with a little more than 6 minutes left, our playoff experience shined through. Teuvo Teravainen sniping one home from near the blue line off of a feed from freak defenseman Duncan Keith, no more than a minute and a half later… Teravainen poke checked the puck off of Lightning’s J.T. Brown stick, right onto Antoine Vermette’s for the game winning red light.
