The Bears traded Jared Allen and Jon Bostic, and also cut Brock Vereen. The talent lost the week before was already a large gap to fill, however the Bears were also playing without top receiver Alshon Jeffrey. To add insult to injury, on the 2nd play of the game, starting center Will Montgomery was taken down from behind, taking out his left ankle, and removing him from the game.
That same drive, Jay Cutler had a 7 yard touchdown pass to Eddie Royal. On the extra point, however, the raiders blocked the attempt, causing the score to remain at 6-0.
On the first drive in the 2nd quarter Amari Cooper caught a 26-yard touchdown from Derek Carr. The following drive, Jay Cutler fumbled a snap that was immediately recovered by Justin Tuck. Roy Helu than ran one in from 4 yards out, giving the Raiders a lead of 14-6.
Cutler responded by leading the Bears downfield and throwing a 6 yard touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett. Pernell Mcphee than picked one off, leading to a 19 yard Robbie Gould field goal.
The 3rd quarter began with yet another injury. Antrel Rolle hurt his leg, and needed to be pulled for the remainder of the game. The Bears were than able to force the Raiders into another punt, however Matt Forte fumbled, and the ball was recovered by Stacy Mcgee. That lead to a Sebastian Janikowski field goal, making the score 17-16.
Gould started the fourth with a 54 yard field goal. Then Latavius Murray and Jay Cutler traded a pair turnovers. After the Cutler interception, The Raiders forced their way downfield, and Janikowksi sunk a 41-yard field goal.
It came down to the final drive, with Bears down 22-20. Cutler worked his way downfield. With 6 seconds left, John Fox Called a timeout, setting up Robbie Gould to make a 49 yard field goal with 2 seconds left, sealing the game for the Bears. This was a very important victory the Bears, as they needed their first win to keep up with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Jay Cutler played far better than expected, with 281 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bear’s proved one thing this Sunday, that while they are much, much better than they look on paper.
